Finland to Japan visa requirements
Finnish citizens can visit Japan visa-free for up to 90 days for short-term, non-paid activities. No Japan eVISA or JESTA-style pre-travel authorization is required as of 2026-06-21; Visit Japan Web is a free optional arrival-procedure service. Finnish citizens holding Finnish passports can travel to Japan without a visa for short-term stays that do not include remunerative activities, and the stay must not exceed 90 days. Eligible purposes include tourism, visiting friends or relatives, and short business activities such as meetings or market research, but paid work, long-term study, journalism, residence, and other remunerated activities require the correct visa before travel. The Embassy of Japan in Finland states that the passport must be valid at the time of entry and strongly recommends validity for the full stay or a few months beyond it. Travellers should carry supporting evidence such as a return or onward ticket, accommodation or host details, trip-purpose documents, and evidence of sufficient funds in case immigration asks. Visit Japan Web is a free official service for immigration and customs procedures and Japan Customs recommends using it for electronic customs declarations, but it is not a visa or entry authorization. JAPAN eVISA is for eligible visa-required travellers and excludes travellers already exempt from short-term visas; Japan has future JESTA planning material, but no JESTA-style authorization is in force for Finnish short-term visitors as of 2026-06-21. Finnair currently describes year-round Helsinki flights to Tokyo Haneda/Narita and Osaka, plus seasonal Nagoya flights.
