Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit IE?

No. As an EU citizen, a Finnish ordinary passport holder needs no visa to travel to Ireland for tourism or a short visit. You enter under EU free movement rights and may use a valid passport or national ID card. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so ETIAS does not apply. Finland is a member of the European Union, and Ireland is also an EU member state. Under the EU's Citizens' Rights Directive (free movement), Finnish nationals have the legal right to enter, live, work and stay in Ireland without a visa or any prior travel authorisation. For tourism or a short visit, you simply travel and present a valid travel document on arrival. Two Ireland-specific points matter. First, Ireland has opted out of the Schengen Area and operates its own border controls (it is part of the Common Travel Area with the UK). Because Ireland is not in Schengen, the Schengen 90/180-day rule does not apply to a stay in Ireland, and the EU's ETIAS travel authorisation (rolling out for the Schengen zone around late 2026) is NOT required for Ireland. Second, although free movement legally allows entry with a national ID card, Ireland requires you to show a passport or identity card at the border, so you must carry an accepted travel document and be able to prove your EU nationality. There is no application, no fee and no processing time for a Finnish citizen visiting Ireland. The only practical preparation is ensuring your passport or national ID card is valid for the duration of your trip and carrying it for the airline check-in and the Irish border check. EU free movement means there is no fixed tourist time limit; stays beyond three months trigger registration/residence formalities but are not relevant to a normal short tourist visit.
