🇫🇮FINLAND🇬🇧UNITED KINGDOMFI-GB Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit United Kingdom?
Finnish passport holders do not need a visa for a short UK tourist visit, but since 2 April 2025 they must obtain a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling. Enforcement (no boarding without an ETA) began 25 February 2026. The ETA costs GBP 20, allows multiple entries of up to 6 months each, and is valid for 2 years. Finland is a European Union member, and Finnish citizens are visa-exempt for short visits to the United Kingdom (tourism, business, short study, transit) for stays of up to 6 months. However, since 2 April 2025 they fall under the UK's Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme. As of 25 February 2026 carriers must deny boarding to anyone who is not matched to a valid ETA, eVisa or UK residence status, so an approved ETA is now mandatory before travel. The ETA is applied for online via the official UK ETA app or gov.uk, costs GBP 20 (raised from GBP 16 on 8 April 2026), and most applicants receive an automatic decision within minutes — though the Home Office advises applying at least 3 working days ahead. An approved ETA permits multiple journeys, each stay up to 6 months, and remains valid for 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. It is not a visa and does not guarantee entry; the final decision rests with Border Force on arrival. British and Irish citizens are exempt, but Finnish-British dual nationals travelling on the Finnish passport still need one.
