Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit ER?
Finnish citizens need a visa to enter Eritrea. There is no visa-free entry, no eVisa, and no general visa-on-arrival for tourists. You must apply in advance at an Eritrean diplomatic mission before you travel. A Finland (FI) ordinary passport holder traveling to Eritrea for tourism requires a visa obtained in advance from an Eritrean embassy or consulate. Eritrea maintains one of the world's most restrictive visa regimes: only a handful of nationalities (e.g. Kenya, Uganda) are visa-exempt, and Finland is not among them. There is no electronic visa system and no general visa-on-arrival for ordinary tourists - the only on-arrival channel is a pre-arranged visa requiring an in-country sponsor to lodge a request with Eritrean Immigration at least 48 hours before arrival, which is not a practical route for independent tourists. The standard process is to apply for a tourist visa using form B62.3, submit it with a passport photo, proof of funds and supporting documents, and mail the physical passport to a mission for stamping. The base embassy fee is around USD 50 (total roughly USD 73-300 once service and photo charges are included), processing takes a minimum of 15 business days, and applicants are advised to apply at least four to six weeks ahead. The visa is valid for three months from issue (entry must occur within that window) and permits a stay of about one month, extendable in Asmara. Note also that travel outside Asmara requires a separate Travel Permit for Foreigners obtained inside Eritrea. Because Finland has no resident Eritrean embassy, Finnish applicants typically apply through the Eritrean mission accredited to the Nordic region (commonly Stockholm) or another nearest mission. Eritrea is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen 90/180 and ETIAS rules do not apply to this destination.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
