Do Finland passport holders need a visa to visit DZ?

Yes, a Finnish passport holder needs a visa to visit Algeria for tourism. There is no visa-free entry and no general visa-on-arrival or e-visa for ordinary tourists. You must apply in advance at an Algerian embassy or consulate (in Finland, the Embassy of Algeria in Helsinki). Finland is not on Algeria's short visa-exemption list (which is limited to a handful of countries such as Tunisia, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Malaysia, Seychelles, Hong Kong and Western Sahara). Ordinary Finnish passport holders therefore must obtain a short-stay tourist visa before travel, applied for in person or via VFS Global at the Algerian diplomatic mission responsible for Finland. A visa-on-arrival exists only for travelers arriving within an organized tour framework (mainly southern/Saharan tourism), not for independent tourists. Algeria has announced plans for an electronic visa (highlighted at the 2025 International Saharan Tourism Fair), but as of 30 May 2026 there is no fully operational general e-visa for Finnish tourists, so the conservative and correct verdict is visa-required. Mandatory requirements include a passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, proof of accommodation (hotel booking or notarized invitation), proof of onward/return travel, and travel/medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 (insurance is explicitly required for Finnish nationals). Typical short-stay visas allow up to 30 days; fees are around EUR 85-120 and processing commonly takes 10-20 business days (faster, around 48 hours, for organized-tour group files).
