Egypt to Syria visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a Syrian visa to visit Syria. Egypt is widely listed among the "restricted" nationalities that must obtain advance visa approval (security clearance) before traveling — typically arranged via a licensed Syrian travel agency or the Syrian embassy, with processing of about 3-4 weeks. Some operators report a $25 visa-on-arrival channel for Egyptians under the new post-Assad rules, but this is not reliably confirmed, so plan for advance approval. Any Israeli stamp or evidence of an Israel border crossing permanently bars entry. Following the fall of the Assad regime (December 2024) and the formation of a transitional government in January 2025, Syria overhauled its visa system. The old eVisa platform is no longer operational. Under the new framework, a small set of mostly Arab and neighbouring nationalities (e.g. Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Mauritania, Malaysia) enter visa-free, while most other travelers either pay a visa-on-arrival fee or — for "restricted" nationalities — must secure prior visa approval (a security clearance / approval letter) before boarding or crossing a land border. Egypt's status is reported inconsistently across sources: several established travel-industry guides explicitly list Egypt among the restricted countries that require advance approval (processing roughly 3-4 weeks via a licensed agency or Syrian mission), whereas a couple of tour operators list Egypt in a US$25 / 15-day visa-on-arrival tier. Because the post-Assad policy is still evolving and changes frequently, and because arriving without confirmed approval risks denied entry, the conservative and safe recommendation for an Egyptian tourist is to treat Syria as visa-required and arrange advance approval. Visa fees are payable in cash US dollars at the border/airport. An absolute, permanent bar applies to anyone whose passport shows an Israeli stamp or an Israel-Egypt/Israel-Jordan border crossing, or who holds Israeli nationality. Syria remains under a "Do Not Travel" advisory from many governments, so travelers should weigh serious safety risks independently of visa status.
