Egypt to Sudan visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders are generally visa-free for Sudan under the Egypt-Sudan Four Freedoms Agreement, entering on a valid passport. The key exception: Egyptian men aged 18-49 require a visa in advance. Note that Sudan is under active armed conflict and Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisories as of mid-2026, so tourist travel is not practically possible. Egypt and Sudan are bound by the 2004 "Four Freedoms" Agreement (freedom of movement, residence, work, and ownership). Under Paragraph 2, residence, movement, entry and exit between the two countries are conducted on the basis of a valid passport, meaning Egyptian citizens do not normally need a visa to enter Sudan. The widely documented operational exception is that Egyptian men aged 18-49 require a visa obtained in advance, while women of all ages and men under 18 or over 49 may enter visa-free. All foreign visitors, including visa-free Egyptians, must register with the authorities within three days of arrival (roughly 5,000 SDG). However, this is a paper entitlement that is currently almost impossible to exercise: Sudan has been in a devastating civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, with ongoing fighting through 2026. The US renewed its Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory on 15 May 2026, the UK and Australia maintain "Do Not Travel" warnings, embassies in Khartoum are suspended, and banking/consular infrastructure has largely collapsed. Tourist travel is therefore strongly advised against regardless of the favourable visa regime. Travelers in the 18-49 male category who must travel should secure a visa and a Khartoum-issued entry permit number, which has become extremely difficult to obtain since the conflict began.
