Egypt to Romania visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Romania for tourism. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025, so its short-stay visa rules now follow the common Schengen policy. ETIAS does not apply to Egyptian nationals because Egypt is a visa-required nationality. Romania completed its accession to the Schengen Area on 1 January 2025, when checks at its internal land borders were lifted (air and sea controls had already ended on 31 March 2024). As a full Schengen member, Romania applies the EU common visa policy. Egypt is listed in EU Regulation 2018/1806 Annex I (nationals who must hold a visa), so Egyptian ordinary passport holders cannot enter visa-free. To visit Romania for tourism or a short stay, an Egyptian must obtain a Schengen Uniform (Type C) short-stay visa, which permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are submitted to the Embassy of Romania in Cairo or its authorized visa service provider (VFS Global). The EU visa fee is EUR 90 for adults and EUR 45 for children aged 6-11, plus a VFS service fee of roughly EUR 30-55; valid medical travel insurance of at least EUR 30,000 coverage is mandatory. Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but frequently extends to 30-45 days from Egypt during peak periods, so apply well in advance. ETIAS, the EU travel authorization launching in late 2026, applies only to visa-exempt nationalities and therefore has no effect on Egyptian travelers, who continue to require a full Schengen visa.
