Egypt to Libya visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders generally need a visa for Libya, but a conditional exemption applies: Egyptian men under 18 or over 45 and all Egyptian women may enter visa-free for up to 3 months. Men aged 18-45 must obtain a visa (eVisa or embassy visa). In all cases a local sponsor/tour operator is required, as independent tourism is not currently permitted. Following a November 2023 Libyan resolution applied on the principle of reciprocity, Egypt nationals receive a conditional visa waiver: males under 18 or over 45 and all females may enter Libya without a visa for up to three months. Egyptian males aged 18-45 are NOT covered and must obtain a visa. Libya launched a tourist eVisa on 21 March 2024 (USD 63, single entry, 90-day validity, max 30-day stay), but it requires a Libyan sponsor and a Letter of Invitation; independent tourism is not allowed and a tour operator must meet travelers at immigration. Because a large adult cohort still needs a visa and even exempt travelers require sponsorship in practice, this route is best classified as visa-required for a typical short tourist stay. Security conditions across Libya remain volatile and most foreign ministries advise against travel. Travelers should confirm current rules with the Libyan Embassy in Cairo before booking.
