Egypt to Japan visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Japan. There is no visa-free entry and no visa on arrival; you must apply for a short-term-stay (tourist) visa in advance at the Embassy of Japan in Cairo. Egypt is not on Japan's visa-exemption list, so an Egyptian ordinary passport holder must obtain a short-term-stay visa before traveling for tourism. Egypt is also not among the countries/regions whose residents can use the JAPAN eVISA system (as of May 2026 that system covers residents of Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Taiwan, the UK and the USA, among others). Egyptian applicants therefore file a paper application at the Embassy of Japan in Egypt (81 Corniche El Nil, Maadi, Cairo). The single-entry tourist visa is typically issued for a stay of up to 90 days, is valid for entry within 3 months of issuance, costs roughly JPY 3,000 (paid in Egyptian pounds at the local exchange rate), and is processed in about 5 working days when the file is complete. Core documents are a passport valid 6+ months with 2 blank pages, the application form, a recent photo, confirmed flight and hotel bookings, and a day-by-day itinerary; financial proof may also be requested.
