Egypt to Iraq visa requirements

Yes, Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Iraq. Egypt is NOT among the 37 nationalities eligible for Iraq's standard online eVisa, and Iraq suspended visa-on-arrival for most travelers on 1 March 2025. Egyptians are on a restricted list and must apply in advance through the Iraqi Embassy/Consulate (or via an authorized sponsor/guarantor inside Iraq). Apply before you travel. As of mid-2026, a visa is mandatory for Egyptian (ordinary passport) citizens visiting Iraq for tourism. Iraq launched a mandatory pre-arrival eVisa system and, from 1 March 2025, suspended visa-on-arrival for most nationalities. However, the online eVisa is open mainly to a list of around 37 countries (EU member states, UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Russia, China and similar). Egypt is not on that eligible list; instead Egyptian nationals fall under a restricted category (alongside countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, Uganda and Yemen) that cannot freely use the standard online channel and instead require a local sponsor/guarantor or must apply through an Iraqi diplomatic mission. The reliable, conservative route for an Egyptian tourist is therefore to obtain a visa in advance from the Embassy of Iraq in Cairo before departure. A single-entry tourist/visit visa is typically valid for 3 months from issue and permits a short stay of about 30 days. Iraq is not in the Schengen area, so no ETIAS or 90/180-day Schengen rule applies. The Kurdistan Region operates its own entry system but also restricts the same nationalities, so Egyptians should not assume Kurdistan visa-on-arrival is available and should confirm with authorities before travel. Travelers should verify current rules directly with the Iraqi Embassy in Cairo close to their travel date, as Iraq's entry policy has changed repeatedly in 2024-2025.
