Egypt to Ghana visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders can enter Ghana with a gratis (free) visa on arrival, valid for up to 60 days. This is not a full visa waiver: although the visa fee is waived for Egyptians, you must still be issued a visa at the port of entry, so carry full supporting documents (yellow fever certificate, return ticket, proof of funds). As of mid-2026, Egyptian citizens holding an ordinary passport are NOT on Ghana's full visa-exempt list. Instead, Ghana grants them a "gratis" visa on arrival — issued free of charge at the airport or land border — for a maximum stay of 60 days for tourism, family visits or short business. Several travel aggregators incorrectly label this "visa-free," but the Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana's own embassy in Cairo confirm a fee-waived visa-on-arrival arrangement rather than a true waiver. A reciprocal bilateral waiver covering diplomatic and service passports has been discussed between the two governments but is not yet in force for ordinary passports. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for all travelers entering Ghana. Because visa on arrival depends on the immigration officer regularizing entry, travelers should carry a passport valid at least six months, a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds. Those wanting certainty before travel may instead apply for an eVisa or an embassy visa in Cairo in advance.

Common refusal reasons

by frequency
/01
Sources mislabel the arrangement as visa-free
Several aggregators say Egyptians need no visa, but the Ghana Immigration Service and Ghana's Cairo embassy confirm a gratis visa on arrival, not a full waiver.
High
/02
No yellow fever certificate
A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory; travelers without it can be refused entry or vaccinated/quarantined at the border.
High
/03
Insufficient passport validity
The passport must be valid at least six months beyond entry; shorter validity leads to refusal.
Medium
/04
No proof of onward travel or funds
Immigration may decline to regularize a visa on arrival without a return ticket and evidence of funds.
Medium
/05
Overstaying the 60-day limit
The gratis visa permits a maximum 60-day stay; overstaying incurs penalties and complicates future entry.
