Egypt to Eritrea visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Eritrea. There is no visa-free entry, no visa on arrival, and no eVisa for Egyptian nationals. The tourist visa must be obtained in advance from an Eritrean diplomatic mission (embassy or consulate) before travel. As of 2026, Egypt (ordinary passport) is not on Eritrea's short list of visa-exempt or visa-on-arrival nationalities. Eritrea's visa policy grants visa-free access only to Kenya and Uganda, and visa-on-arrival only to Ethiopia and Sudan; everyone else, including Egyptians, must obtain a visa in advance from an Eritrean embassy or consulate. Eritrea operates no electronic visa (eVisa) system. The standard tourist visa is a sticker placed in the passport: it is single entry, generally valid for 3 months from the date of issue with a one-month permitted stay (extendable in-country through immigration). Required documents include a completed application form, a passport-size photo (35x45mm), a passport valid at least 6 months beyond the trip with a blank page, proof of sufficient funds, and proof of residency. Processing takes a minimum of about 15 business days. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers arriving from or transiting endemic areas. Note that Eritrea separately requires foreign visitors to obtain internal travel permits to leave the capital, Asmara, by road. Conservatively and per official sources, the verdict is visa-required.
