Egypt to Bulgaria visa requirements

Egyptian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Bulgaria for tourism. Bulgaria became a full Schengen member on 31 March 2024 (air/sea) and 1 January 2025 (land), so a uniform Schengen visa is required and time in Bulgaria counts toward the 90-days-in-180 limit. Bulgaria is part of the Schengen Area and Egypt is on Annex I of EU Regulation 2018/1806, meaning Egyptian nationals must hold a visa before travel. For tourism, the correct document is a Schengen Type C short-stay visa allowing up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area. Applications are lodged at the Bulgarian Embassy in Cairo or its outsourced visa centre (VFS Global), with biometrics, travel medical insurance of at least EUR 30,000, proof of accommodation, return travel, and sufficient funds. The standard adult visa fee is EUR 90 (paid in EGP equivalent), plus a service-centre handling fee. Processing is typically 15 calendar days and can extend to 45 days in busy periods, so applying 3-6 weeks ahead is advised. ETIAS does NOT apply to Egyptian nationals because it is only for visa-exempt travellers; Egyptians always need the full Schengen visa. Apply no earlier than 6 months before travel.
