Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit PY?
German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Paraguay. You may enter visa-free for tourism and stay up to 90 days, based on a long-standing bilateral visa-waiver agreement. Just carry a passport valid for at least 6 months and proof of onward travel. Germany and Paraguay have a bilateral visa-exemption agreement in force since 1 December 1962. Holders of ordinary German passports can enter Paraguay without any visa for tourism or short visits and stay up to 90 days. The stay can be extended once by a further 90 days through Paraguay's Directorate General of Migration (Migraciones) before the initial permit expires. There is no fee, no advance application, no eVisa and no visa-on-arrival process for this route. Paraguay is in South America, not the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and the EU ETIAS scheme do NOT apply to Germans traveling to Paraguay (ETIAS only affects travel into Europe). The German Federal Foreign Office confirms the only requirements at the border are a passport valid for at least six months beyond entry and, at the officer's discretion, evidence of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. No vaccination certificate is mandatory for direct travel from Germany, though yellow fever proof may be requested if arriving from an endemic country. This verdict was verified against the German Federal Foreign Office travel advisory and the published Paraguay visa policy as of 31 May 2026, with no pending changes affecting German nationals.
