Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit MZ?
German passport holders need a pre-arrival Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for tourist visits to Mozambique. Germany is on the official 29-country ETA list, so you cannot simply land visa-free, but you also do not need a full embassy visa. Apply online at the official portal (evisa.gov.mz) at least 48 hours before departure. The ETA costs about USD 48, allows multiple entries within a 30-day stay (extendable once for another 30 days), and requires a passport valid 6+ months, a return/onward ticket, and proof of accommodation. As of May 2026, Germany (ordinary passport) is classified by Mozambique under its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) regime rather than full visa-free entry. Mozambique relaunched its e-Visa/ETA platform on 11 February 2026 (operated with VFS Global support) at evisa.gov.mz. Citizens of 29 listed countries, including Germany, must obtain an ETA online before travel; they are not eligible to simply enter visa-free, but they are exempt from the standard consular visa. The ETA permits a stay of up to 30 days with multiple entries from the date of first entry and can be extended once for a further 30 days on justification. The official ETA fee rose to approximately USD 48 per person (from roughly USD 10 previously), and an additional entry fee of about MZN 650 may be collected on arrival. Applicants need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a confirmed return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation; a yellow fever certificate is required only if arriving from or transiting an at-risk country. Applications should be submitted at least 48 hours before departure. Mozambique is in southeastern Africa and is not a Schengen state, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route. Travelers should always reconfirm their specific passport eligibility on the official portal close to departure, as the relaunched system and fees are recent and airline boarding checks may apply.
