Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit MG?
German passport holders need a visa for Madagascar but can get a short-stay tourist eVisa online before travel (single entry, up to 30 or 60 days). A visa on arrival is also available at international airports and seaports for tourist stays under 30 days. Madagascar is not visa-free for German (DE) ordinary passport holders, and it is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. For a short tourist stay, Germans have two practical options: an electronic visa (eVisa) applied for online before departure via the official portal evisamada-mg.com / evisamada.gov.mg, or a visa on arrival (VOA) obtained at Madagascar's international airports (notably Antananarivo-Ivato) and seaports for tourist, cruise or sailor stays of less than 30 days. The tourist eVisa is single entry with a maximum duration of 60 days; fees were updated on 16 February 2026, when the 15-day band tripled. Pre-applying online is recommended because it locks in your authorization, avoids airport queues, and provides a printable confirmation. A passport valid for at least six months on arrival, a return/onward ticket and proof of sufficient funds are required. Note the official online platform changed branding; both evisamada-mg.com and evisamada.gov.mg are referenced as the official government service, and travelers should avoid third-party look-alike sites.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
