Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit Finland?
No visa. German citizens enjoy EU freedom of movement and can enter Finland for tourism with just a valid German passport or national ID card — no visa, no ETIAS. Germany and Finland are both members of the European Union and the Schengen Area. As an EU citizen, a German ordinary passport holder exercises the right of free movement: no visa, no entry permit, and no time-limited tourist authorisation are required to travel to Finland. You may enter and stay using either a valid German passport or a valid German national identity card (Personalausweis). Because both countries are inside Schengen, there are normally no systematic checks at internal borders, though Finland may reintroduce temporary border controls and on-the-spot police checks can occur, so you must carry a valid travel document at all times. EU citizens may reside in Finland for up to three continuous months with no formalities; staying longer than three months requires registering your right of residence with the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri). The forthcoming ETIAS travel authorisation (expected to launch around Q4 2026) does NOT apply to EU/Schengen nationals — German citizens remain fully exempt. There is no fee for entry.

For guidance only — visa rules change with little notice. Always confirm directly with the destination's embassy or foreign ministry before booking non-refundable travel. Information here applies to ordinary (non-diplomatic) passports unless noted.
