Germany to Ethiopia visa requirements

German passport holders need a visa for Ethiopia and should apply for the tourist eVisa online before departure. It grants a 30-day single-entry stay and you must enter via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. Germany is not visa-exempt for Ethiopia. The standard and recommended route for a short tourist visit is the Ethiopian tourist eVisa, applied for online at the official portal (evisa.gov.et) before travel. The current tourist eVisa is single-entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, and costs around US$62 (Ethiopia reduced the fee by US$20 in late 2024). The longer 90-day eVisa option was withdrawn in November 2024, so 30 days is the only stay length now offered for the standard tourist eVisa. A critical requirement: eVisa holders may only enter Ethiopia through Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD); arriving at any other port of entry with an eVisa is not permitted. While Ethiopia historically listed visa on arrival at Bole for some nationalities including EU citizens, applying for the eVisa in advance is officially recommended and avoids airport queues and refusal risk; travelers should not rely on visa on arrival. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the intended date of entry. Ethiopia is in Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
