Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit Egypt?
German passport holders need a visa for Egypt. The easiest route is the official e-Visa applied for online before travel; a visa on arrival is also available at international airports. A single-entry tourist visa costs about USD 25 and allows a stay of up to 30 days. German ordinary passport holders require a visa to enter Egypt for tourism. There are two practical options: the official e-Visa obtained online before departure (recommended for a smoother arrival), and a visa on arrival purchased at the bank counters in the arrivals hall of international airports such as Cairo, Hurghada, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh. A single-entry tourist visa costs about USD 25 and permits a stay of up to 30 days; a multiple-entry visa costs about USD 60. The e-Visa must be used within 90 days of issue. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry. A special exemption applies to the South Sinai resort zone (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba): travellers staying only within this area for up to 14–15 days receive a free entry-permission stamp and do not need a paid visa, but this stamp does not allow travel elsewhere in Egypt (including St Catherine's Monastery beyond the permitted radius). The German Foreign Office notes that Egypt is phasing in a fully digital entry system from February 2026, replacing the paper arrival/departure cards, and that checks on the stated purpose of stay have been tightened with higher fines for violations.
