Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit CD?
German ordinary passport holders need a visa for the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The simplest route for a short tourist stay is the official electronic visa (eVisa) applied for online before travel via the government portal evisa.gouv.cd. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel. A German citizen cannot enter the DRC visa-free or get a visa on arrival; a visa must be obtained before departure. Since the launch of the official DGM electronic visa system (evisa.gouv.cd), most tourists apply online and receive an eVisa, though traditional consular visas at the DRC Embassy in Berlin remain available. The tourist eVisa is commonly issued as a short single-entry permit (the online portal route typically grants a 7-day stay, extendable in-country at a DGM office; longer 1-month and multiple-entry categories exist via the embassy). All travelers entering on a visa must also pay a separate mandatory border/entry fee (VAP, around USD 90) on arrival. A passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, proof of accommodation, onward/return travel, sufficient funds, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate are required. Because security conditions in parts of the DRC (notably the east) are volatile, travelers should check current German Foreign Office advisories before booking.
