Germany to Canada visa requirements

German ordinary passport holders need a CAD 7 Canadian eTA before flying to or transiting through Canada. Short visits are visa-free, normally up to 6 months, with the stay set by the border officer. German ordinary passport holders are visa-exempt for short visits to Canada for tourism, business or transit, but must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding a flight to Canada or transiting through a Canadian airport. The eTA costs CAD 7, is applied for online, is electronically linked to the passport used in the application, and is valid for up to 5 years or until that passport expires. Most applications are approved within minutes, though some take several days if IRCC asks for documents. Travellers arriving by car, bus, train or boat generally do not need an eTA, but still need a valid passport. Most visitors may stay up to 6 months, unless the border services officer authorizes a different period; the passport must be valid for the stay. The eTA does not authorize work or most study, and longer stays or employment require the appropriate Canadian authorization.
