Do Germany passport holders need a visa to visit BA?

German ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Bosnia and Herzegovina. You may stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism. A valid passport (or German national ID card) is sufficient; no visa, eVisa, or pre-registration is required. As an EU member state, Germany enjoys visa-free access to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). German ordinary passport holders can enter for tourism, business, or transit without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Bosnia and Herzegovina is NOT part of the EU or the Schengen Area, so this 90-day allowance is completely separate from any Schengen short-stay limit. Germans may enter with a valid passport or a German national identity card (Personalausweis); a provisional ID card (vorläufiger Personalausweis) is not accepted, though a provisional passport is. The travel document must remain valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure. There is no advance online registration, ETIAS, or eVisa requirement for entry. Visitors are required to register their address with the local police within 48 hours of arrival, but hotels and registered accommodation handle this automatically for guests; only those staying in private/unregistered accommodation must register themselves. Border officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds (a guideline of about 150 BAM, roughly EUR 75, per day of stay), proof of onward/return travel, and confirmation of accommodation. ETIAS, the EU's own travel authorisation, does not apply when entering BiH; it would only apply in reverse, to Bosnian nationals entering the Schengen Area once that system is live. All sources consulted (Bosnian visa policy, the German Federal Foreign Office, and the German Embassy in Sarajevo) confirm the visa-free status remains in effect as of 2026 with no recent restrictive changes.
