China to Iran visa requirements

Visa-free for up to 21 days per entry for tourism or business visits under Iran's unilateral policy for Chinese ordinary passports, in force since 16 Jul 2019. Chinese ordinary passport holders can enter Iran without a visa for tourism/sightseeing or business visits for up to 21 days per entry. Chinese consular guidance says Iran has applied a unilateral visa-free entry policy to Chinese citizens since 16 July 2019, requiring a passport valid for more than six months; Iran's official eVisa portal also lists China among citizenships subject to visa waiver rules. This is not a bilateral ordinary-passport mutual visa-free agreement: China's official mutual visa exemption list shows Iran only for diplomatic and official passports. Work, study, residence, media/journalism, and stays beyond the 21-day waiver need the proper Iranian visa, permit, or in-country extension. If a longer stay is needed after entry, apply to Iran's immigration police before the 21-day stay expires; overstays are fined. Entry remains discretionary: travelers should carry evidence matching the short visit, including return or onward travel, accommodation or host details, and funds. Chinese guidance also warns that foreign nationals with Israeli visas or Israeli entry/exit stamps in their passport may be refused entry by Iranian customs. Travel insurance is recommended for short visits and visa applicants should follow the current eVisa or embassy requirements.
