Canada to Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) visa requirements

Canadian passport holders can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days. Complete the free online Taiwan Arrival Card within 3 days before arrival, and carry a valid passport plus onward or return ticket. Canadian ordinary passport holders can enter Taiwan visa-free for tourism, visits, transit, short business, exhibitions, fact-finding, and other short activities that do not require a separate permit, for up to 90 days per entry. Taiwan BOCA lists Canada in the 90-day visa-exempt group and requires a formal passport with at least six months remaining on the date of entry, a confirmed return or onward air/sea ticket with seat reservation, any visa required for the next destination, and final admissibility at the port of entry. The Government of Canada gives a more conservative passport rule for regular Canadian passports: valid for at least six months beyond the expected date of departure from Taiwan. Since 1 October 2025, foreign travelers entering under visa exemption must complete the free Taiwan Arrival Card (TWAC) online within three days before arrival; it has replaced paper arrival cards. Taiwan does not require a separate ETA or eTA for Canadian visa-exempt travelers. Canadian and UK passport holders are the listed exception to the usual non-extension rule: they may apply in Taiwan before the first 90-day stay expires to extend once by another 90 days, to 180 days total, through BOCA/MOFA offices with no fee. This extension is not for employment, residence, or stays planned beyond six months. Canada is not listed among Taiwan's reciprocal partner countries for visitor entry e-Gate; Canadian visitors should expect to use an immigration counter for entry, while all foreign persons may use e-Gates for departure where available. Work, formal study, residence, journalism, or other permit-required activity needs the correct Taiwan visa or permit.
