Canada to Mauritania visa requirements

Canadian passport holders need an eVisa to visit Mauritania. It must be obtained online through the official ANRPTS portal before boarding your flight; visa on arrival was abolished on 5 January 2025. As of 2026, Canadian ordinary passport holders cannot enter Mauritania visa-free. Mauritania launched its electronic visa (eVisa) system in January 2025, and since 5 January 2025 all visa-required nationals (including Canadians) must obtain an approved eVisa online before boarding their flight. The previous visa-on-arrival option at airports and land borders no longer exists, and as of mid-2025 Mauritanian embassies have stopped issuing sticker visas, directing applicants to the online portal. Applications are made through the official ANRPTS portal (anrpts.gov.mr), operated by the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles under the Ministry of the Interior. Once approved, travellers receive an approval/QR code that must be printed; the visa fee (about USD 60 for a 30-day stay) is paid upon arrival in Mauritania. The eVisa is offered in 30, 90, and 360-day duration options. Mauritania is in West/North Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so no Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS applies. A yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required depending on routing, and a passport valid for at least 6 months with a return ticket and proof of accommodation are expected.
