Do Canada passport holders need a visa to visit CY?
Canadian ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist visits to Cyprus and may stay up to 90 days. Cyprus is an EU member but is NOT in the Schengen Area, so its 90-day allowance is counted separately from the Schengen 90/180 quota. From late 2026, an ETIAS travel authorization (EUR 20, valid 3 years) will be required before travel. A Canadian citizen holding an ordinary passport can travel to the Republic of Cyprus for tourism without a visa for stays of up to 90 days. The Government of Canada confirms "Tourist visa: not required for stays up to 90 days." Although Cyprus is a member of the European Union, it is not yet part of the Schengen Area; as a result, days spent in Cyprus are tracked independently and do NOT count against the standard Schengen 90-days-in-any-180-day allowance (and vice versa). At entry, Canadians simply present a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date, and may be asked for proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. Looking ahead, the EU's European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to enter operation in the last quarter of 2026. Cyprus, despite being outside Schengen, participates in ETIAS. Once operational, visa-exempt travelers such as Canadians will need a pre-approved ETIAS authorization (EUR 20, exempt for applicants under 18 and over 70, valid for up to three years or until passport expiry) linked to their passport before boarding. Until ETIAS becomes mandatory, no pre-travel authorization is required and entry remains straightforwardly visa-free.
