Austria to Kenya visa requirements

Austrian passport holders need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before traveling to Kenya. Kenya abolished traditional visas in January 2024 and now requires all visitors (except EAC member-state citizens and most African nationals) to obtain an approved eTA online prior to departure. The fee is USD 30 and it permits a single-entry tourist stay of up to 90 days. Kenya replaced its visa regime with an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system effective 5 January 2024. There is no visa-free walk-in channel for Austrian (Schengen, EU) tourists: every foreign visitor, including Austrians, must apply for and receive an approved eTA via the official portal www.etakenya.go.ke before boarding. The eTA costs USD 30 (plus a small service/bank fee, bringing the typical total to roughly USD 32-34) and is normally processed within three working days; travelers are advised to apply at least three days before departure. The authorisation must be used within 90 days of issuance, is generally valid for a single entry, and permits a tourist stay of up to 90 days, extendable to a maximum of 180 days at a Kenyan immigration office. A passport valid at least six months with a blank page, proof of accommodation/onward travel, and a passport-style photo are required; a yellow fever certificate is needed only if arriving from an endemic country. Kenya's January 2025 reforms abolished the eTA for most African nationals but did not change the requirement for European, including Austrian, travelers. Kenya is in East Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
