Austria to Iraq visa requirements

Austrian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Iraq. Since 1 March 2025, visa-on-arrival has been suspended for Austria, so you must obtain an electronic visa (eVisa) online via the official evisa.iq portal before you travel. The single-entry tourist eVisa allows a stay of up to 30 days. Note: Austria's foreign ministry has a Level 4 (highest) travel warning for all of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region. An Austrian citizen with an ordinary passport cannot travel visa-free to Iraq and is no longer eligible for visa-on-arrival. Effective 1 March 2025, Iraq added Austria to a list of 37 nationalities that must apply for an electronic visa (eVisa) before departure through the official Government of Iraq portal at evisa.iq; the previous airport visa-on-arrival facility for these nationals was suspended. The standard tourist eVisa is valid for the whole of Iraq (federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region), permits a stay of up to 30 days, and is typically processed within roughly 24-72 hours, though some applications can take longer. The total cost is approximately US$150-160 (around EUR 145), which on the official channel bundles the visa fee with mandatory health insurance. Passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay and travelers should carry proof of onward travel and accommodation. Separately, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs (BMEIA) maintains a Level 4 "do not travel" security warning for all of Iraq and warns that consular assistance is severely limited; this is a safety advisory and does not change the legal entry requirement, which is the eVisa. Iraq is not in the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to this route.
