Austria to Croatia visa requirements

No visa needed. Austrian citizens enjoy full EU freedom of movement and can enter Croatia with just a valid national ID card or passport, for any length of stay. An Austrian ordinary passport holder needs no visa to travel to Croatia. Both Austria and Croatia are member states of the European Union, and Croatia has been a full member of the Schengen Area since 1 January 2023. Under EU freedom of movement rules, Austrian citizens may enter, stay, work, and reside in Croatia without any visa, entry permit, or time limit. A valid Austrian passport OR a valid Austrian national identity card is sufficient to cross the border. The Schengen 90/180-day short-stay rule and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation apply only to non-EU/EEA nationals and therefore do NOT apply to Austrian citizens. Likewise, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), rolling out across the Schengen area from October 2025, registers only third-country (non-EU) travellers and does not affect Austrians. Travellers should simply ensure their ID card or passport is valid and carried at all times, since spot identity checks may occur at internal borders for reasons of public order or security.
