Austria to The Gambia visa requirements

No visa required. Austrian (ordinary passport) tourists can enter The Gambia visa-free for up to 90 days under the EU/Schengen non-reciprocal visa-waiver. You only pay a D1,000 (~USD 20) Securiport airport fee on arrival and departure. Austria is an EU member and Schengen state, and The Gambia's Immigration Department (GID) grants visa-free entry to Schengen/EU citizens, including Austrians holding diplomatic, official/service or ordinary passports. The Gambia's New Visa Policy document (published February 2026) confirms this under "Visa Exemption" and specifically as a "Non-reciprocal visa waiver agreement" covering "Nationals of the 27 EU member states." Visa-free visitors may stay up to 90 days for tourism or business; no advance visa, eVisa, or entry clearance is required. On arrival at Banjul International Airport (BJL) all passengers are biometrically enrolled in the Integrated Immigration Control System and pay a Securiport fee of D1,000 (about USD 20), with the same fee charged on departure; diplomats and children aged 2 and under are exempt. Travellers must hold a valid passport, show visible means of sustenance (sufficient funds and ideally onward/return ticket and accommodation details), and must not fall in the prohibited-immigrant category. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if arriving from or transiting a country with yellow fever transmission risk; arriving directly from Austria does not trigger this. Note that one older travel-information site claims Austria needs a visa and that stamps are valid 28 days, but this is contradicted by the current official GID policy, which lists EU/Schengen citizens (no per-country exception for Austria) as visa-free with a 90-day allowance; the authoritative government sources prevail. Visa-waiver agreements can change, so reconfirm close to travel.
