Austria to Ghana visa requirements

Austrian passport holders need a visa to enter Ghana. As of late May 2026, Ghana operates an official online eVisa portal (evisa.immigration.gov.gh) open to 190+ nationalities including Austria. A single-entry tourist eVisa costs about USD 260 (standard 3-5 business days). A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. Austria (ordinary passport) is NOT visa-exempt for Ghana, so a visa is required for tourism. The recommended route is now the eVisa: on 25 May 2026 (African Union Day), Ghana's President inaugurated a national e-Visa platform at evisa.immigration.gov.gh, run by the Ghana Immigration Service. It accepts applications from 190+ countries and offers tourist, business, student and transit categories. For non-African nationals like Austrians, the single-entry tourist eVisa costs approximately USD 260 under standard processing (3-5 business days / ~96 hours), with faster tiers (USD 338 for 48-hour priority, USD 442 for 5-hour express) and multiple-entry options (USD 468-796). African passport holders get a free ETA instead, but that waiver does NOT extend to Austrians. The traditional embassy sticker visa via the Ghana Embassy in Vienna remains an alternative (EUR 100 single entry, EUR 140-240 multiple entry; standard 5 working days, express 1 day). Ghana's tourist visa is generally valid for 3 months. A yellow fever vaccination certificate (issued more than 10 days before, valid up to 10 years) is mandatory for all travelers. Passport must have at least 6 months validity and blank pages. The new eVisa is becoming the central channel and has effectively ended visa-on-arrival for most travelers, so applying online before departure is strongly advised. Be conservative: never travel to Ghana without a confirmed visa or eVisa approval and proof of yellow fever vaccination.
