Austria to Egypt visa requirements

Austrian ordinary passport holders need a visa for Egypt. The simplest option is the official online tourist eVisa (single entry, ~30 days, USD 30). A separate visa-free "Sinai Only" entry permit (max 15 days) is available on arrival if you stay strictly within the South Sinai resorts (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba). Egypt is not part of the Schengen area or any visa-waiver arrangement with Austria, so Austrian citizens require a visa for tourism. The recommended and easiest route is the official Egyptian government eVisa, applied for online at visa2egypt.gov.eg before travel. A single-entry tourist eVisa permits a stay of up to 30 days and is valid for 3 months from issue; a multiple-entry eVisa is valid 6 months with 30 days per stay. Following a fee revision effective 27 April 2026, the single-entry eVisa costs USD 30 and the multiple-entry eVisa USD 65 (these followed a separate visa-on-arrival fee increase on 1 March 2026). A visa on arrival is also available at major airports for the same fee, but the eVisa is preferred to avoid airport queues and confusion. As an EU citizen, an Austrian traveler visiting ONLY the South Sinai resort zone (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba) for up to 15 days can instead receive a free "Sinai Only" entry permit stamp on arrival - but this does not allow travel to Cairo, Luxor, the Pyramids or the rest of Egypt, for which a full eVisa or visa on arrival is required. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, and proof of onward/return travel may be requested.
