Austria to Czechia visa requirements

No visa is required. As an EU citizen, an Austrian ordinary passport holder enjoys full freedom of movement and may enter and stay in Czechia with just a valid passport or national ID card. Austria and Czechia are both European Union member states and part of the Schengen Area. Under the EU's fundamental right to free movement of persons, Austrian citizens may travel to, enter, reside in, work and study in Czechia without a visa and without any time limit. A valid Austrian passport OR a valid Austrian national identity card is sufficient to cross the border; no residence or work permit is needed for tourism or short visits. The Schengen 90/180-day short-stay rule and the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation apply only to non-EU (third-country) nationals and therefore do NOT apply to Austrian citizens. Note that as of mid-2026, Austria has reintroduced temporary internal Schengen border controls on its frontier with Czechia (extended through 15 June 2026), so travellers should carry a valid ID document even though no visa is required. The new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) also does not register EU citizens.
