Austria to China visa requirements

Visa-free up to 30 days for Austrian ordinary passport holders. China's unilateral policy is in effect through 31 December 2026. Austrian ordinary passport holders can enter mainland China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, visits to relatives or friends, exchange visits, or transit. The Embassy of China in Austria and the National Immigration Administration both list Austria, and the embassy's November 2025 extension notice says the Austria-inclusive unilateral visa-free policy runs until 24:00 on 31 December 2026. No visa application, fee, visa-on-arrival, or advance declaration to a Chinese embassy or consulate is required. Travelers must use an ordinary passport valid for the intended stay in China; Austrian service passports, emergency passports, temporary travel documents, and other non-ordinary documents are not covered by this unilateral ordinary-passport waiver. Chinese border officers may examine the purpose of travel, so carry matching proof such as invitation letters, tickets, and accommodation bookings. Work, formal study, journalism, and stays beyond 30 days require the appropriate visa or stay permit. The Arrival Card must be completed on entry, and non-hotel stays must be registered with local public security within 24 hours.
