Argentina to Paraguay visa requirements

Argentine ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Paraguay. As fellow MERCOSUR citizens they enter visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days, and may use either a valid Argentine passport or a valid national ID (DNI) as the travel document. Argentina and Paraguay are both full members of MERCOSUR, whose freedom-of-movement and residence agreements grant Argentine nationals visa-free entry to Paraguay. The Paraguayan immigration authority (Dirección General de Migraciones) admits Argentine tourists for up to 90 consecutive days, extendable once. A key MERCOSUR benefit is that Argentine citizens are not required to carry a passport: a valid Argentine national identity document (DNI Digital tarjeta or libreta celeste) is accepted as a travel document for entering Paraguay, as is a valid ordinary passport. No advance application, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is involved. Travelers receive a stamp/entry receipt (Comprobante de Entrada) on arrival, which must be retained and presented on exit. Documents must be in good condition; handwritten or deteriorated DNIs are rejected at the border. Note that a DNI marked "Extranjero" (foreigner) is not valid for MERCOSUR travel even with residency; in that case the foreign passport must be used. Beyond 90 days or for work/residence, Argentines can apply for the favorable MERCOSUR residence regime. This is a long-standing, stable arrangement with no 2024-2026 changes affecting Argentine tourists; Paraguay is not in the Schengen area so the 90/180 Schengen rule and ETIAS do not apply.
