Argentina to Portugal visa requirements

Argentine ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Portugal. Portugal is in the Schengen Area, and Argentina is on the EU visa-exempt list, allowing stays of up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone. As of 30 May 2026, citizens of Argentina holding an ordinary passport can travel to Portugal for tourism, business, family visits or transit without a visa. Argentina appears on Annex II of the EU visa regulation (visa-exempt third countries), so no Schengen short-stay (type C) visa is required. The permitted stay is a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period, counted cumulatively across ALL Schengen states, not just Portugal. The passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date and have been issued within the previous 10 years. Border officers (Portugal's immigration authority is AIMA, the successor to SEF) may still ask for proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, accommodation, and travel medical insurance. A significant upcoming change: the EU's ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) is expected to become operational in the last quarter of 2026. Once live, after a transitional grace period, visa-exempt travelers including Argentines will need to obtain an ETIAS authorization (EUR 20, valid up to 3 years) before travel. As of the 30 May 2026 reference date, ETIAS is NOT yet required, so no pre-travel authorization is needed. The verdict remains visa-free.
