Argentina to Costa Rica visa requirements

Argentine ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Costa Rica. Argentina is in Costa Rica's "Primer Grupo" (Group 1), permitting visa-free entry for up to 180 days. Holders of an ordinary Argentine passport can travel to Costa Rica for tourism without a visa. Under Costa Rica's General Visa Directives published in La Gaceta on 17 November 2025, Argentina is classified in the "Primer Grupo" (Group 1), the most favorable category. Group 1 nationals may enter by presenting only a valid passport and receive an entry stamp authorizing a stay of up to 180 calendar days (non-extendable, except where less than 90 days was granted on arrival). The exact length granted is decided by the immigration officer at the port of entry. Costa Rica is in Central America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. There is no eVisa, ETA, or visa-on-arrival process to complete for Argentine tourists. At entry, travelers should be prepared to show proof of onward or return travel, evidence of sufficient funds (roughly US$100 per month of intended stay), and accommodation details. Costa Rica does not impose a six-month passport validity rule on Group 1 nationals (technically as little as 1 day of validity is accepted), but airlines commonly expect validity covering the trip and a passport in good condition with a blank page. Note: many third-party travel guides still cite an older 90-day figure; the current official maximum for Group 1, including Argentina, is 180 days as of the November 2025 directive.
