Argentina to Canada visa requirements
Argentina is a visa-required country for Canada, but it participates in Canada's partial eTA (eTA-X) program. An Argentine ordinary-passport holder flying to Canada can use a low-cost online eTA (CAD 7) INSTEAD of a visitor visa ONLY if they meet a condition: they have held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years, OR they currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa, and they are arriving by air. If neither condition is met, or arriving by land/sea, a Temporary Resident (visitor) Visa is required. Canada classifies Argentina as a visa-required nationality, so Argentine ordinary passport holders are NOT visa-exempt. Since June 2023, however, Argentina has been an eTA-eligible country under Canada's "eTA-X" expansion. This lets qualifying Argentine travelers apply for an inexpensive Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) online instead of a full visitor visa, but only if all three conditions are met: (1) the traveler has held a Canadian visa in the previous 10 years OR holds a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa; (2) the trip is for tourism, business, or transit of up to 6 months; and (3) the traveler arrives by air to a Canadian airport. Travelers who do not meet the visa-history/U.S.-visa condition, or who arrive by land, rail, or sea, must instead obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV / visitor visa), which involves an application through IRCC, biometrics, and a longer processing time. The eTA costs CAD 7, is valid up to 5 years (or until the passport expires), permits multiple entries, and allows stays of up to 6 months per entry. The visitor visa costs CAD 100 plus an CAD 85 biometrics fee. Canada is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
