Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit SI?
UAE ordinary passport holders can visit Slovenia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Slovenia is in the Schengen Area, and the EU-UAE visa-waiver agreement exempts Emirati nationals from short-stay Schengen visas. Slovenia is a full member of the Schengen Area. Under the EU-UAE short-stay visa-waiver agreement (in force since 2015), holders of United Arab Emirates ordinary passports do not need a visa for tourism, business, or short visits to Slovenia or any other Schengen state. The permitted stay is a maximum of 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, counted cumulatively across all Schengen countries. No advance authorization is currently required to board or enter. Two operational changes affect travelers in 2026: the biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) has been rolling out since October 2025 and reaches full operation on 10 April 2026 (passport, fingerprints, and facial image captured at the border instead of a passport stamp), and the ETIAS travel authorization is scheduled to launch in Q4 2026, becoming a mandatory pre-travel requirement for visa-exempt nationals such as Emiratis only after a transitional period (expected around 2027), at a fee of EUR 20. As of 31 May 2026, ETIAS is not yet required, so Emirati travelers can fly to Slovenia with just a valid passport and supporting documents. At the border, even visa-free visitors must be able to show proof of onward/return travel, sufficient funds, accommodation, and ideally travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000.
