Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit RW?
UAE ordinary passport holders do NOT need to arrange a visa before flying to Rwanda. A 30-day single-entry tourist visa is granted on arrival for US$50, with no prior application required. An online eVisa via irembo.gov.rw is an optional alternative. As of 2026, a United Arab Emirates ordinary passport holder traveling to Rwanda for tourism does not need a pre-arranged visa. Under Rwanda's open visa policy (effective since 1 January 2018, citizens of all countries can obtain a visa on arrival without prior application), UAE nationals receive a visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport and other ports of entry. The UAE Embassy in Kigali confirms that UAE regular-passport holders are "granted entry visas upon arrival and are exempt from applying and paying entry visa fees online or at the Rwandan embassy in Abu Dhabi before departure," but must pay the US$50 entry fee on arrival. This is the standard 30-day single-entry tourist visa (Rwanda caps visa fees at US$50 single entry / US$70 multiple entry). UAE is not on Rwanda's free-visa-on-arrival list (which covers African Union, Commonwealth, La Francophonie members, and a specific 90-day-free list including Qatar and Singapore), so the US$50 fee applies. Travelers who prefer certainty can apply online in advance through the official Irembo portal (irembo.gov.rw), typically processed within about 3 working days. Rwanda is in East Africa, not the Schengen area, so ETIAS and the Schengen 90/180 rule do not apply. Diplomatic, official, and service passport holders receive the visa on arrival free of charge, but this guide covers ordinary passports.
