Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit Portugal (Schengen)?

No visa needed. UAE ordinary passport holders can enter Portugal visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days in any 180-day period under the EU-UAE Schengen visa waiver. As of 30 May 2026, holders of an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport do NOT need a visa to visit Portugal for tourism or short stays. Under the EU-UAE short-stay visa waiver agreement (in force since 6 May 2015), Emirati nationals may enter the Schengen Area — which includes Portugal — visa-free for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. You simply present a valid passport at the border. The visa waiver covers tourism, business visits, family visits and transit, but not paid work. Two new EU border systems affect the trip but do NOT change the visa-free status: the Entry/Exit System (EES), being rolled out since October 2025 and fully operational from 10 April 2026, registers your biometrics (fingerprints and facial image) digitally at the first Schengen border instead of stamping the passport. The ETIAS travel authorisation is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 (after a transitional period); it is NOT yet required as of May 2026, so today entry is passport-only. Once ETIAS goes live, Emirati travellers will need to obtain it online (a small fee, valid up to 3 years) before travel. Always carry proof of onward/return travel, accommodation and sufficient funds, as these can be checked at the border.
