Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit PG?
A UAE ordinary passport holder should apply for Papua New Guinea's online eVisa (Visitor / Easy Visitor Permit) before travel. A February 2026 PNG-UAE visa-waiver MoU promises visa-on-arrival for up to 30 days, but it has no confirmed operational date yet, so the eVisa remains the reliable channel. Papua New Guinea is not in the Schengen area, so Schengen and ETIAS rules do not apply. For most foreign nationals, PNG entry is managed by the Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) through its online eVisa portal (evisa.ica.gov.pg). The relevant short-stay product for a UAE tourist is the Visitor eVisa (also marketed as the "Easy Visitor Permit"), a single-entry permit allowing stays of up to 30 or 60 days, with the eVisa itself valid for around 6 months from issue. A significant recent development is the PNG-UAE Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Exemption of Entry Visa Requirements, signed in Dubai on 4 February 2026, under which PNG agreed to grant UAE passport holders of all categories visa-on-arrival (and reciprocal access) for up to 30 days. However, official PNG government statements describe this as an MoU and do not state an operational/effective date, and third-party trackers still conflict on whether UAE nationals can currently obtain a visa on arrival versus needing to pre-apply online. Following the conservative rule that a no-visa or VoA channel must be confirmed in force, the dependable route as of 31 May 2026 is to obtain the eVisa online before departure. Travelers should also complete the PNG Digital Arrival Card (required for all travelers since 1 October 2025) and carry a passport valid at least 6 months. Always re-check the ICA portal close to travel, as the VoA waiver may become operational.
