Q: What is EES and does it cost anything?

The Entry/Exit System records your passport details, fingerprints, facial image and entry/exit dates at Schengen external borders. It is free at the border and, since 10 April 2026, replaces manual passport stamping.

Q: What documents should I carry?

A valid UAE passport, return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Norway states visitors must document at least NOK 500 per day unless a host provides a financial guarantee. Travel medical insurance is strongly recommended.

Q: Does the exemption cover all UAE passports?

It covers UAE nationals holding a UAE passport. If you hold a UAE travel document but are not a UAE national, you must apply for a Schengen visa in your national passport.

No visa needed. UAE ordinary passport holders can visit Norway visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. Holders of an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport do NOT need a Schengen visa to visit Norway for tourism or short business. As confirmed by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in the UAE, Emiratis are visa-exempt and may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. ETIAS is not required as of 18 June 2026; the European Commission says it is expected to start in the last quarter of 2026, with a EUR 20 fee once operational. The Entry/Exit System (EES) is now fully operational across Schengen external border crossing points: since 10 April 2026, it replaces passport stamps with digital entry/exit records and biometric registration. At the border, travellers must hold a passport valid for at least 3 months after planned Schengen departure and issued within the last 10 years, and may need to show purpose of stay, return/onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds; Norway states at least NOK 500 per day unless a host provides a financial guarantee.
