Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit Japan?

No visa needed. UAE ordinary passport holders can enter Japan visa-free for short tourist stays of up to 90 days, provided they hold an ICAO-compliant biometric (IC chip) passport. As of 2026, United Arab Emirates citizens holding an ordinary passport do NOT need a visa for tourism or short visits to Japan. Effective 1 July 2025, Japan extended the visa-exempt stay for UAE nationals from 30 days to 90 days. The exemption applies only to holders of an ICAO-compliant Integrated Circuit (IC chip / biometric) passport. Travel must be for non-remunerative purposes such as tourism, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, or short business meetings. No advance application, eVisa, or ETA is required - travelers simply board their flight and present their valid e-passport at immigration. A visa is required only for longer stays, work, study, or any paid activity. Note this is a reciprocal arrangement; Japanese nationals have enjoyed similar 90-day visa-free access to the UAE since August 2024.
