Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit HU?

UAE ordinary passport holders can travel to Hungary visa-free for short tourist stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen Area. No visa or pre-travel authorization is required as of May 2026. ETIAS will become a requirement only after it launches in the last quarter of 2026. The United Arab Emirates has a visa-waiver agreement with the European Union, so Emirati nationals holding an ordinary passport enjoy visa-free entry to Hungary and the rest of the Schengen Area for tourism, business, or family visits. The allowance is up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period, counted cumulatively across all Schengen states (not per country). No application, fee, or advance authorization is required for travel as of 30 May 2026. Travelers simply present a valid passport at the external Schengen border, where an officer may ask for proof of accommodation, return travel, and sufficient funds. A change is coming: the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026. Once it is in force, visa-exempt nationals including UAE citizens will need to obtain an approved ETIAS (a EUR 7 online authorization valid for three years or until passport expiry) before boarding. ETIAS is not a visa and does not change the visa-free status; it is a pre-screening travel authorization. Until ETIAS is operational and mandatory, UAE passport holders continue to travel to Hungary with no electronic authorization at all. Separately, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is being phased in to register entries and exits electronically at borders.
