Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit China?
Visa-free 30 days for Emirati tourists. China-UAE bilateral visa-free since Jan 2018. Emirati passport holders can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business, family visits, or transit. The China-UAE mutual visa exemption agreement entered into force on 16 January 2018, making it one of the earliest reciprocal arrangements between China and a Gulf state. It was reaffirmed and broadened in 2024 within the China-Gulf cooperation framework that also gave Saudi, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait unilateral access. UAE residents and Emirati nationals enjoy dense direct flight connectivity: Emirates, Etihad, Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, and Cathay Pacific operate from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong. Travel must be for short-term purposes — work, study, journalism, and stays over 30 days still require a regular visa from the Chinese embassy in Abu Dhabi or consulate in Dubai. For longer or other purposes, regular China visa fees are AED 452 (single entry) or AED 904 (multi-entry).
