🇦🇪United Arab Emirates🇧🇮BurundiAE-BI United Arab Emirates to Burundi visa requirements
UAE ordinary passport holders need a visa for Burundi, but UAE MoFA lists normal UAE passports as eligible for visa on arrival. Burundi also offers an official online visa/pre-arrival application channel through CGM; completing it before travel is still prudent. As of 17 June 2026, holders of an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport need a visa route for Burundi, but UAE MoFA's current Burundi destination guidance lists normal UAE passports as Visa On Arrival for a 90-day stay. Burundi grants free EAC entry to citizens of East African Community partner states; current EAC membership includes DRC, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda besides Burundi. The UAE is not an EAC state. A UAE-Burundi visa-exemption memorandum of understanding was signed in January 2019 and UAE MoFA's current Burundi destination guidance lists normal UAE passports as Visa On Arrival, so this should be treated as a current no-pre-entry/VOA benefit rather than a non-operative agreement. Burundi also offers an official online visa/pre-arrival application channel through the Commissariat Général des Migrations (CGM) at migration.gov.bi, and the Burundi Embassy in Washington says travelers using visa on arrival should complete the online form before boarding. The standard one-month visa fee shown by CGM is USD 90, with two- and three-month options at USD 180 and USD 270. Passports should be valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of travel with at least one blank page. Burundi is not a Schengen state, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
