Do UAE passport holders need a visa to visit AT?
UAE ordinary passport holders can travel to Austria visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the EU-UAE Schengen visa waiver. Austria is a member of the Schengen Area, and holders of an ordinary United Arab Emirates passport enjoy visa-free entry for short stays under the EU-UAE visa waiver agreement that took effect on 7 May 2015 (the UAE was the first Arab country granted a Schengen waiver). You may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area for tourism, business, family visits or transit, without applying for a visa in advance. You must hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure date and issued within the previous 10 years, and you may be asked at the border to show proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, a return/onward ticket and travel medical insurance. Note two upcoming EU border changes: the Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric registration began rolling out in late 2025, and ETIAS (a mandatory online travel authorisation, fee EUR 20, valid 3 years) is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026. As of 30 May 2026, ETIAS is not yet required, so a valid passport alone is sufficient for entry, but UAE travellers should plan to register for ETIAS once it goes live later in 2026.
